Retrofitting Information
The SWV Heatwave strategy encourages those most at risk to retrofit their homes whereever possible. It is hoped that this will promote a comfortable living temperature range both in summer and winter for them and reduce climate change.
Western District Employment Access (WDEA) Retrofitting Program
WDEA & South West TAFE were successful in tendering for a Sustainability Victoria Energy and Water Task Force Household Retrofit program.
The target areas include Corangamite Shire, Moyne Shire, Southern Grampians Shire, Warrnambool, Portland
The project commenced on the 3rd August 2009 and aims over a 2 year period to :
- Assist 600 low income households living in South Western Victoria to reduce their energy and water costs & improve home comfort. (Commencing in the Terang region)
- Provide training and work experience to assist jobseekers with vocational and Non vocational barriers to gain employment in green trades and other related industries;
- Build the capacity of organisations to deliver energy and water saving services to low-income households
- Supervise the work teams which undertake the Energy and Water Assessments and Retrofit work, including scheduling of assessments, retrofits and Quality Control

Green Loans Program - Local Green Assessor
The Australian Federal Government has launched a Green Loans Program for both homeowners and renters. The scheme, which started on 1 July 2009, consists of two stages. Firstly, you can book a free visit by an accredited home sustainability assessor to identify ways to save energy and water around your home. Secondly, the program offers loans of up to $10,000 to carry out some of the energy-saving and water-saving steps recommended by the assessor.
